Recently, Great Wall Strategy Consulting re-released the GEI China Potential Unicorns Research Report 2024, which reveals in-depth the latest development of China’s potential unicorn enterprise groups. In 2023, more than 85% of China’s potential unicorns will be in the cutting-edge technology sector. Nearly 20% of the potential unicorn enterprises are specialized, specialized and new “small giant” enterprises, and nearly 60% of the potential unicorn enterprises are national high-tech enterprises. The potential unicorn enterprises in China are distributed in 41 tracks, with IC becoming the track with the largest number of potential unicorn enterprises.
GEI China’s Potential Unicorns Criteria
Great Wall Strategy Consulting (GWSC) is the earliest think tank organization in China to research and publish “unicorn” lists, and has published China’s unicorn enterprise list and research report for eight consecutive years since 2016, and China’s potential unicorn enterprise list and research report for five consecutive years since 2020. The selection of GEI China’s potential unicorns is based on the criteria for potential unicorns in the “Classification Guidelines for High Growth Enterprises” (GB/T 41464-2022):
1 Non-foreign-controlled enterprises registered in China with independent legal personality;
2 Has received private investment and is not yet listed;
3 Meet one of the following conditions: the post-investment valuation of the latest round of financing within 5 years of establishment reaches USD 100 million; the post-investment valuation of the latest round of financing within 5-9 years of establishment reaches USD 500 million.
