Resnics Technology was invited to participate in the 2021 CCF National Conference on High Performance Computing

From October 21st to 23rd, the CCF National High Performance Computing Conference 2021 (CCF HPC China 2021), themed “Smart Computing Empowerment – Winning the Future Together”, was held in Hengqin, Zhuhai. The conference combines industry experts and industry stalwarts to provide a high level of insight, grasp the pulse of supercomputing development, and exchange views to deconstruct the trend of smart computing integration.

Mr. Ronnie Huang, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Resnics Technology, as a chip industry expert, storage field expert and DPU smart card industry leader, was invited to participate in the summit and delivered a keynote speech on “Shared Storage Application of DPU in HPC”.

In his presentation, Mr. Huang Yiren mentioned that the demand for the HPC ecosystem has evolved in recent years as data-intensive applications and loads continue to grow in popularity.

In particular, the use of HPC resources for leading High Performance Data Analytics (HPDA)/Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML)/Deep Learning (DL) applications, including the continued migration of these resources to enterprise data centers to support data analytics needs arising from real-time business operations, is driving a shift in HPC from traditional compute-intensive applications such as modeling and simulation, to data-intensive loads.

This shift highlights the critical role that storage architectures play in providing researchers, engineers, and business data analysts with the best-performing HPC infrastructure for the fastest possible research and analytic results.

NVMe has become the dominant protocol for high-performance storage controllers today; NVMe over Fabric takes the high performance, low latency, and low protocol burden provided by the NVMe protocol in a single system and extends it to the network-based interconnect fabric of NVMe storage systems, one of the most optimal solutions for HPC shared storage.

Witnessing the history of NVMe over Fabric development, Mr. Huang Yiren, as the patent inventor of NVMe over Ethernet, started leading the team in 2013 and spent only two years to develop and design the world’s first SSD controller chip that supports NVMe over Ethernet, and achieves the expected goals in both latency and performance.

Based on past experience, Mr. Huang Yiren believes that NVMe over Fabric technology will be widely used in cloud computing, HPC, AI, and other fields in the future, and is the cornerstone for the development of storage-computing separation, heterogeneous computing, and shared storage in data centers, and NVMe over Fabric technology is one of the core elements of the DPU (Data Processing Unit), smart NIC products.
