On September 26th, the Intelligent Data Management Meetup, jointly organized by China’s SODA open source community and the NextArch Foundation, was held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Shanghai. Guests at the event came from technical experts and leaders from companies such as Resnics Technology, Huawei, Tencent, Intel, OPPO, NetEase, VEEAM, and more.
The event covers data and storage technology innovations in the areas of cloud-native hybrid multi-cloud, unstructured data management, etc., with the intention of solving the various problems of data storage and management faced by large global customers. As a leading storage and network DPU chip and solution provider in China, Mr. Tang Jie, Vice President of Solutions of Resnics Technology, was invited to participate in this event and delivered an important speech on “DPU for HCI Storage”. Mr. Tang focused on two important core technologies (NVMe over Fabric and RDMA) and solutions for data storage applications in Resnics DPU products.
Through the standard NVMe over Fabric industrial standard, the high-speed NVMe SSD devices can be pooled and shared across multiple network nodes via RDMA. Based on the NVMe SSD resource unification, the standard interfaces of NVMe devices are realized on DPU, which is protocol agnostic for upper layer software.
For the current architecture based on multiple server nodes scaling out, seamless connectivity can be realized. Existing storage service stacks can access not only local NVMe SSD resources, but also remote pooled NVMe SSD resources.
Like traditional storage moving from DAS to SAN, the architecture of HCI storage is also evolving towards pooling and sharing for more efficient data protection. IceChip’s DPU solution can help HCI’s solution to realize the hardware offload of data path, and HCI’s software can run on the DPU to realize the control of data path, which can reduce the consumption of server CPU in the storage stack, and make the server’s CPU can be more focused on the front-end of the storage service realization.
It is expected that the future DPU will play a greater role in high-performance storage systems, providing low latency and high bandwidth storage solutions.
